Global Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week 2018

Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week is celebrated globally to educate and increase awareness about mitochondrial disease.

Mitochondrial disorders (MD) are a group of multisystem syndromes with a broad phenotypic spectrum. They are associated with mutations in several genes regulating mitochondrial functions. Mitochondrial disorders are estimated to affect 1 in 5,000 people in Europe.

We too are with Mitocon and the associations of patients and family members suffering from mitochondrial diseases to remember the importance of research on these diseases.

The Mariani Foundation Center for the study of Pediatric Mitochondrial Diseases hosted by the Medical Genetics and Neurogenetics Unit of the Foundation IRCCS Istituto Neurologico "C. Besta" at Bicocca premises has for years been a reference center for diagnostics, clinical assistance and research in this area.
